6. Guru, our desktop app

Guru is the offline AI tutor you install on your own Windows or Mac computer. It is designed so that the teaching itself never leaves that computer.

Your child's voice and questions stay on the computer. Speech recognition, the tutor's answers and the spoken reply are all produced by software running locally on your own machine. Recordings and conversations are never uploaded to us or to any third party, and Guru needs no internet connection to teach.
Lesson history is stored locally. Progress, topics covered and conversation history are kept in a file in the app's own folder on your computer. Deleting the app's data folder, or uninstalling Guru, removes them.
What Guru does send us, and only at setup or when you ask it to check for updates: your sign-in (email address and name from your Google account), an opaque random identifier for the installation, which model you are downloading, and the app version. These let us confirm your entitlement, apply the limit on how many computers one account may use, and serve the correct download.
The installation identifier is not a hardware serial. It is a random value generated on first run. Guru also reads a machine identifier from your operating system to lock the downloaded model to your computer, but that value is used only on your computer and is never transmitted to us.
No advertising and no analytics. Guru contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software. Downloading the app or the tutoring model involves our content delivery provider, which sees the request and its network address, as with any file download.
Microphone. Guru asks your operating system for microphone access because speaking to it is how it is used. The microphone is active only while you are recording a question.

7. Children

Guru is made for school students, and much of our service is used by children. Accounts, sign-in and payment are intended to be set up by a parent or guardian, and we do not ask a child for personal information. Because Guru's tutoring runs entirely on your own computer, a child's spoken questions and answers are not collected by us at all. A parent or guardian may contact us at the address below to see, correct or delete the account information we hold.
